  • Our well established arbitration service is there for anyone who is looking for bespoke dispute resolution
  • In arbitration, the parties choose their judge and agree to be bound by his or her award
  • There are many benefits of arbitration including speed, confidentiality and the ability to agree who will be the judge
  • We have the largest team of arbitrators at the Family Bar. All our arbitrators are members of CIArb and IFLA. They range from former judges to junior members of Chambers.
  • We are at the forefront of family arbitration practice, having been involved in the two landmark cases, S v S and DB v DLJ
  • Our barristers are routinely instructed to appear as advocates in arbitrations: it is familiar territory

  • Our mediation service is there for anyone who wants the help of a mediator to seek consensual resolution to their dispute outside the court room
  • We have 19 fully trained, expert mediators in Chambers who bring their knowledge and expertise as specialist family law barristers to help people find their own solutions
  • There are many benefits of mediation including speed, cost, confidentiality and avoiding acrimony. The parties, with the help of the mediator, can find a bespoke solution to their particular case which can then be turned into a legally binding court order
  • Our mediation, arbitration and private FDR services dovetail well. If the mediation process reaches an impasse, an arbitration can then be arranged with one of our arbitrators

  • We have a number of leading barristers (many with judicial experience or experience as arbitrators) who can help parties reach a settlement by giving their opinion as to likely outcome on a neutral and impartial basis
  • There are many advantages of a private FDR including, the ability to choose your judge, speed and flexibility as to location and format. The costs’ of delay and/or there being "no available judge" can be avoided
  • Our private FDR and arbitration services dovetail well. If the private FDR does not result in settlement, an arbitration can be arranged with one of our arbitrators

  • Some of our barristers can now be instructed directly by clients, rather than via a solicitor.
  • The scheme is especially useful where funding issues arise. We recognise that many individuals cannot afford to instruct both barristers and solicitors. All barristers at 1 Hare Court are specialist family lawyers and specialist advocates.
  • Both advisory work and in-court representation are available under the scheme.
  • Qualification and practice as a public-access barrister is overseen by the Bar Standards Board.
  • Please contact our clerks for a preliminary discussion about your needs and whether they can be met by a public access arrangement.
